Cross Country and Severna Park go hand in hand. While it’s easy to hate on the Yankees, the Falcons have done nothing but earn their success over the years and decades. Hard work, dedication, and consistency aren’t a guarded secret, but it’s the recipe the team takes to heart each season. Their slogan of “We>Me” guides them throughout the season.
The storyline on the girl’s side is the quest for a fifth consecutive state championship. It would be an incredible feat, but it’s not something the girls take lightly or as a guarantee. On that prospect, Coach Alcombright says, “If the girls stay healthy they have the talent, depth, and drive to do some really special things this season. They are really focused and had a great summer; beating them is a going to take a big effort.” The lady Falcons top returners are Josie Kamas, Lexie Fitzsimmons, Caroline Stead, and Mari Matthews. They add cross country newcomer in Siena Pegues, who has a very strong soccer background, but she is also an established runner with a 2:14 800 PR. The Falcon’s strength is their championship experience, but their depth is also a major asset.
The boys are just as motivated as their lady counterparts. Their goal is to reclaim the county title and take another run at a state title. Crofton usurped the county crown from Severna Park in 2025; the last time the Severna Park boys didn’t win the county championship was when Matt Centrowitz was a senior in high school back in 2006. Looking to the start of the season for the boys, Coach Alcombright is very positive: “The boys are determined and we have added some key pieces that could prove to make them a stronger team than they appear on paper. I’m excited to see how the season plays out.” Brendan Woods will be their leader, and he is their most experienced championship racer. While only a scrimmage, he took the win at Howard High School last week. He also anchored their 4×800 state championship team back in May. While the Falcons did lose some seniors from last year, they have several guys ready to step up including Evan Tarsi, Anton Sifuentes, and Colin Denton.
