The Hereford girls have been a dominant team over the past decade. They won another 2A Cross Country title last fall, and the team looks to defend that title. The Bulls return a young yet very experienced group of girls, including Sylvia Snider, Rebekka Hillier, Charlotte Levis, and Ridley Lentz.
On the boy’s side, in 2022, they had their highest state meet finish in several years , as they were fourth overall at the 2A state meet. The boys have raised their expectations for this season, and this group is more focused than ever. Liam McCue, Jake Weakland, Justin Gasparini, and Zach Reeves lead the charge for the Bulls.
On both the girl’s and boy’s side, while some familiar faces look to lead their squads, there may be some dark horses who can bolster their lineup. Coach Adam Hittner gives some insight into his team’s runners and their expectations.
“We expect to be carried through the season by our entire roster of athletes. Success on the level we aim for is achieved when you have everyone on the roster completely invested in what is happening on a daily basis.  This gives us the opportunity to see athletes like Anna Kurtz and Mia Davis on the girls side, upperclassmen (a senior and junior) who have never been in a varsity lineup for us. But they have gotten better every single year, and putting in consistent mileage over the summer and seeing breakthroughs in training, and they get to enjoy seeing themselves improve and give themselves a chance at making a varsity lineup. Or someone like Colin Kurniawan on the boys side; he didn’t make our championship 7 last year but he put in more mileage this summer than any Hereford athlete in the last decade, because he loves to run and wants to see what he can do. Or sophomore Enzo Taylor who as a 9th grader struggled to make it through the time trial on day 1, but he discovered how much he loves running and after cross country, indoor track, outdoor track and a hefty amount of summer mileage he is crushing his best workout times from any point last year and enjoying every single day of training. This is where success comes from, great kids who believe in themselves and invest themselves into what they are doing. Large numbers of kids are what some programs seek, we want kids who want to be here and want to be part of something special. As for how the season goes and our expectations, we may win every race we go to, we may not win any, but anybody the finishes ahead of us is damn sure going to have to earn it.”
